Beginner Fly Tying Class

Learn to tie your own flies from the ground up.

This four-week beginner course at Anglers Den is designed for anyone who wants to get into fly tying but isn’t sure where to start. No previous fly-tying experience is required.

Each week, we’ll focus on tying specific fly patterns while teaching you the techniques behind them. Rather than simply copying a fly, you’ll learn why different materials are used, how to work with them, and how the techniques you learn can be applied to other patterns.

What You'll Learn

Over the four classes, we'll cover the fundamentals every new fly tyer should know, including:

• How to properly set up and use a vise and basic fly-tying tools
• Starting, controlling, and finishing your thread
• Selecting the correct hook, thread, and materials
• Proper material proportions and fly construction
• Working with common materials such as dubbing, feathers, wire, chenille, and more
• Creating durable, clean flies
• Basic techniques used to tie nymphs, dry flies, and other proven patterns
• How and when the flies you tie can be fished

A Different Focus Each Week

Each class will feature specific fly patterns chosen to introduce new tying techniques and build on what you learned the week before.

By the end of the four-week course, you won't just have a collection of flies you've tied yourself. You'll have a foundation of skills you can use to start tying many other patterns on your own.
