Northern Utah Fishing Report | September 22–28, 2025
Fall fishing is officially here across Northern Utah! Cooler nights and changing leaves are signaling the start of some of the best trout fishing of the year. Water temps are dropping, fish are feeding more aggressively, and conditions are looking great across the region.
Provo River
The Provo is in prime shape heading into fall, with steady flows and clear water throughout both the middle and lower sections. Trout are active and feeding heavily before the cold sets in.
Flows & Conditions: Clear water with moderate flows — easy wading and great visibility.
What’s Working: Nymphing remains reliable with small midge, sow bug, and baetis patterns. Dry-fly anglers are seeing solid afternoon activity with BWOs and midges. Streamers are starting to pick up some aggressive browns in the early mornings and evenings.
Best Times: Mid-morning through early afternoon and again at sunset.
Species: Brown and rainbow trout.
Pro Tip: Keep a few streamer rods ready — pre-spawn browns are starting to move, and larger patterns are getting attention.
Pineview Reservoir
Pineview continues to produce solid late-season fishing for bass and tiger muskie. Water temps are falling into the upper 60s, sparking more active feeding windows.
Water Conditions: Slightly stained with cooler surface temps.
What’s Working: Early mornings are great for topwater poppers and buzzbaits for bass. For tiger muskie, large glide baits and jerkbaits fished near submerged timber and points are moving fish.
Best Times: Dawn until mid-morning and again in the last two hours of daylight.
Species: Tiger muskie, smallmouth bass, and crappie.
Pro Tip: Cover water efficiently — these predators are roaming more as the water cools.
Weber River
The Weber is one of the best fall river options right now. Clear water and dropping temps have fish moving into prime feeding lanes.
Flows & Conditions: Excellent clarity, moderate flows, and perfect late-September conditions.
What’s Working: Nymph rigs with small baetis, hare’s ears, and midge patterns are producing well. Streamers are starting to move bigger browns, especially early or late in the day.
Best Times: Late morning through early evening.
Species: Brown and rainbow trout.
Shop Tip: Swinging soft hackles in riffles has been a great way to connect with actively feeding fish.
Strawberry Reservoir
Strawberry is turning on as the water cools down. Trout are cruising shallower flats and prepping for fall.
Water Conditions: Clear with surface temps in the low 60s.
What’s Working: Troll with pop gear and worms, or cast spoons and tube jigs in 15–25 feet of water. Fly anglers should try leeches and woolly buggers with slow retrieves.
Best Times: Early morning and dusk.
Species: Cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and kokanee salmon.
Pro Tip: Focus near the Ladders and Soldier Creek side — cooler inflows are drawing in fish.
