Northern Utah Fishing Report | October 6 – 12, 2025

October fishing is in full swing across Northern Utah! Cooler water, colorful canyon backdrops, and active fish make this one of the most rewarding times to get out. Browns are staging for the spawn, trout are cruising shallows, and the reservoirs are alive with fall feeding activity.

Jordanelle Reservoir

Jordanelle continues to fish well as surface temperatures drop into the high 50s. The trout bite has picked up in the mornings, and smallmouth bass are still active along rocky shorelines.
Water Conditions: Clear with surface temps in the high 50s to low 60s.
What’s Working: Trolling spoons, tube jigs, and jerkbaits near the surface has been producing rainbows and browns. Bass anglers are doing well on soft plastics and drop-shot rigs in 10–20 feet of water.
Best Times: Early morning and late evening.
Species: Brown trout, rainbow trout, and smallmouth bass.

Pro Tip: Target wind-blown coves or rocky points — baitfish are stacked up and predators are close behind.

Weber River

The Weber is one of the top rivers to fish this week. Browns are in pre-spawn mode, making them aggressive and territorial. Flows are steady, and the clarity is excellent.
Flows & Conditions: Moderate flows with cool, clear water.
What’s Working: Streamers in olive, black, and white are producing quality browns. Nymph rigs with small midges, sow bugs, and baetis imitations continue to catch fish throughout the day.
Best Times: Early morning for streamer fishing; late morning through mid-afternoon for nymphs.
Species: Brown and rainbow trout.

Shop Tip: Swinging streamers through deeper runs has been especially productive this week — stop by Angler’s Den for locally tied fall streamer patterns.

Provo River

The Provo is fishing fantastic right now. With lower flows and cooling temps, trout are active from morning to evening. This is one of the best weeks of the season to fish it.
Flows & Conditions: Clear with stable fall flows.
What’s Working: Baetis and midge nymphs are hot, and the afternoon BWO hatch is starting to show. Streamers are also producing solid browns in deeper pools.
Best Times: Mid-morning through sunset, with overcast days being ideal.
Species: Brown and rainbow trout.

Pro Tip: Use smaller tippet sizes and natural drifts — fish are feeding selectively but aggressively on blue-winged olives.

Deer Creek Reservoir

Deer Creek is improving weekly as water temps continue to drop. Trout and bass are feeding up for the colder months, and conditions are near perfect for both boat and shore anglers.
Water Conditions: Clear with temps in the high 50s.
What’s Working: Trolling spoons and crankbaits for rainbows, or working small plastics and jerkbaits for bass along structure. Fly anglers are picking up trout near the surface early with streamers and leech patterns.
Best Times: Morning and late afternoon.
Species: Rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and walleye.

Pro Tip: Focus on rocky shorelines and the main points near Charleston Bay — baitfish are moving shallower and drawing in predators.

Final Thoughts

October is one of the best months to fish Northern Utah, hands down. The Weber and Provo Rivers are hot with brown trout action, and the reservoirs — especially Jordanelle and Deer Creek — are loaded with active fish chasing bait. The colors, cool air, and hungry trout make for the perfect fall weekend on the water.
