Fishing Report

Strawberry is in its fall pattern. The cutthroat and rainbows are moving shallower as the water cools, and DWR calls this some of the fastest fishing of the year. Shore guys should be doing well off the rocky points and steep banks. New this week, DEQ put an algae warning on Strawberry on October 8, so keep the dogs out of any scummy water.

For the boats, troll a white or green tube tipped with a little crawler just under the surface about 100 feet back, nice and slow. Float tubers, olive or dark flies are the deal this time of year. Kokanee are still off limits for keeping statewide through November 30, so let those go.

Hot Species

Selected by the Anglers Den team

Cutthroat Trout

A native western trout recognized by the red-orange markings beneath its jaw. Cutthroat inhabit cold streams, mountain lakes and reservoirs and readily feed on aquatic insects and baitfish.

Rainbow Trout

A widely stocked and naturally reproducing trout known for aggressive feeding, strong runs and its distinctive pink lateral stripe.

Kokanee Salmon

A landlocked sockeye salmon found in several Utah reservoirs. Kokanee travel in schools and are commonly targeted by trolling small dodgers, squids and spoons.
