Fishing Report
Flaming Gorge is providing several distinct fishing opportunities. Lake trout remain a dependable deep-water target around submerged points, ridges and canyon structure. Use sonar to locate fish before vertical jigging large tubes or spoons. Trolling swimbaits and plugs near the productive depth can also cover water effectively.
Kokanee are in their late-summer and early-fall transition. Locate suspended schools near the thermocline and troll small lures behind dodgers. Spawning behavior and seasonal closures can affect where kokanee may legally be targeted, so check the current Utah or Wyoming regulations for the specific section being fished.
Smallmouth bass remain active on rocky points, humps and canyon-wall transitions. Ned rigs, tubes and small swimbaits worked near the bottom are reliable. Rainbow trout can be found around creek arms, shore-access areas and cooler portions of the water column using spoons, spinners and trolling presentations.
Water levels are expected to continue declining through September. Confirm current launch conditions before traveling and remember that license requirements and fishing regulations differ between the Utah and Wyoming portions of the reservoir.
