Fishing Report

Still nothing new from the park on East Canyon. Last update was mid September, about half full with the ramp down to one lane. The storms moved out and it's bright with cold mornings this week.

Trout should be cruising shallower early and late now that the water's cooling. Smallmouth are still the most reliable, but they're slowing down, so fish slower and a little deeper. We haven't seen any fresh catch reports, so this is based on conditions and the season.

Hot Species

Selected by the Anglers Den team

Rainbow Trout

A widely stocked and naturally reproducing trout known for aggressive feeding, strong runs and its distinctive pink lateral stripe.

Brown Trout

A wary, aggressive trout recognized by its golden-brown body and dark spots. Larger browns often feed heavily on baitfish and are most active in low light.

Tiger Trout

A sterile hybrid of a brown trout and brook trout, recognized by its maze-like markings. Tiger trout are aggressive predators that readily chase flies and lures.

Smallmouth Bass

A hard-fighting warm-water predator commonly found around rocky shorelines, points and drop-offs. Smallmouth readily strike soft plastics, crankbaits and streamers.

Wiper

A powerful hybrid of striped bass and white bass known for explosive strikes and strong runs. Wiper often chase schools of baitfish in open water and near windblown points.

Kokanee Salmon

A landlocked sockeye salmon found in several Utah reservoirs. Kokanee travel in schools and are commonly targeted by trolling small dodgers, squids and spoons.

Black Crappie

A schooling panfish commonly found around submerged trees, docks and vegetation. Crappie readily strike small jigs, soft plastics and suspended presentations.
