Fishing Report

Deer Creek is about the same, around 48 percent at the last park update in late September, with the main and island ramps open. The DEQ algae warning is still up, so stay out of green or scummy water.

Cooler weather should bring the trout up shallower. Smallmouth are on the rocky points and walleye are best early and late. Watch the wind, the storms this week can kick it up fast. We haven't seen any fresh catch reports here.

Rainbow Trout

A widely stocked and naturally reproducing trout known for aggressive feeding, strong runs and its distinctive pink lateral stripe.

Brown Trout

A wary, aggressive trout recognized by its golden-brown body and dark spots. Larger browns often feed heavily on baitfish and are most active in low light.

Smallmouth Bass

A hard-fighting warm-water predator commonly found around rocky shorelines, points and drop-offs. Smallmouth readily strike soft plastics, crankbaits and streamers.

Largemouth Bass

An ambush predator commonly found near vegetation, submerged wood and protected shoreline cover. Largemouth readily strike soft plastics, jigs and reaction baits.

Walleye

A low-light predator commonly found near rocky points, drop-offs and deeper structure. Walleye are often targeted with jigs, crankbaits and slowly trolled presentations.

Yellow Perch

A schooling fish recognized by its yellow body and dark vertical bars. Yellow perch feed around vegetation and bottom structure and readily take small jigs and bait.

Black Crappie

A schooling panfish commonly found around submerged trees, docks and vegetation. Crappie readily strike small jigs, soft plastics and suspended presentations.
