Fishing Report
Causey Reservoir is entering its early-fall transition. Cooling water should improve trout activity, especially during the morning, evening and overcast periods. Rainbow trout provide the most consistent opportunity, while tiger trout and brown trout are worthwhile targets for anglers using larger baitfish presentations.
Work steep shorelines, rocky points, inlet areas and the first major drop-off. Cast spinners, spoons and marabou jigs, allowing them to sink before beginning the retrieve. During the middle of the day, move deeper and use vertical jigging or slow trolling presentations.
Kokanee are moving toward their spawning period. The tributaries above Causey are closed from August 15 through 6 a.m. on the last Saturday of September, so anglers must stay out of the closed sections. Causey is a no-wake reservoir with limited shoreline access, making a kayak, float tube or small watercraft especially useful.
