Fishing Report
Bear Lake is fishing best for Bear River cutthroat trout and lake trout. With warm surface temperatures, focus on deeper water around rocky points, drop-offs and offshore structure. Use electronics to locate fish before committing to a depth.
Trolling deep-diving minnow baits and FlatFish-style lures close to the bottom is a productive approach. Vertical jigging with tube jigs, swimbaits and spoons can also produce once fish are located. The Rockpile, First Point, Second Point, Cisco Beach and the artificial rockpiles north of the Utah State Park marina are reliable areas to begin searching.
Shore fishing is generally more difficult during the warmer part of the season. Bank anglers should concentrate on early mornings, evenings and accessible areas with a steep drop into deeper water. Bonneville cisco and Bear Lake’s whitefish remain present, but their strongest targeted fishing opportunities occur during the colder months.
